To develop a method to estimate the presence of infectious* noroviruses in shellfish.

CONTEXT

The OXYVIR 2 project is a follow-up to the OXYVIR project. The objective of the latter was to develop a method to estimate the presence of infectious* noroviruses in shellfish.

* Noroviruses are responsible for gastroenteritis in humans. Transmission can occur through the ingestion of contaminated food (shellfish, fresh/processed plants).

Objective

To confirm that the bacterial viruses (which attack bacteria) "infectious F-specific RNA phages" allow to estimate the presence of infectious norovirus in oysters.

About the project

The aim is to confirm that these bacterial viruses are more legitimate and robust for estimating the presence of norovirus in oysters. To do this, their survival rates will be compared as a function of temperature, water salinity, and seawater purification treatments used to shelter and depurate oysters. Also, their relationships will be studied in the different conditions tested as well as in the oysters.

Expected results

To put on the market a method allowing to estimate in an indirect way the presence of infectious norovirus in oysters.
