AQUIMER is a structure founded in 1999 and labellised as a national Pole of Competitiveness by the State in 2005.

- AQUIMER is a tool at the service of businesses, scientists and training centres.
- AQUIMER facilitates the development of businesses.
- AQUIMER assists in raising funding for research and training projects.

The aim of the AQUIMER competitiveness cluster is to reconcile the depletion of seafood resources and the increase in food demand with the imperatives of sustainable development.

AQUIMER programmes focus on three issues:

- Maximising the available resources and creating new resources based on sustainable development,

- Positioning fishery products in future foodstuffs,

- Changing the fundamentals of the aquatic food industry to promote the emergence of new technological and business approaches.
