New Ingredients for New Aquaculture Foods

Context

The growth of world aquaculture and the need for preservation of natural marine resources require making changes to the composition of feeds for farmed fish towards more sustainable formulas (plants, insects...).

Objective

Developing new aquaculture feeds in order to enable companies in the French trout and sea bass fish farming sector to plan ahead for the total substitution of fish meal and fish oil in aquaculture feeds.

About the project

As a first step, the project partners wish to identify and develop new ingredients that can be incorporated into new aquaculture feeds. Secondly, they wish to define the effectiveness of these new feeds in terms of fish growth, health and quality and to establish whether these new feeds are capable of ensuring the technical, economic and environmental sustainability of French aquaculture systems.
