3 questions to Olivier Poline from Nouvelles Vagues

Each month, find out more about our members in 3 questions! This month, Olivier Poline from Nouvelles Vagues (New Waves), answers our questions.

What is your business activity?

The  innovation platform Nouvelles Vagues is a technical center in the form of a private company which has three distinct activities: a technological hall and a laboratory based in Boulogne-sur-Mer and an experimental aquaculture station based in Wimereux.

  • The laboratory carries out microbiological analyses, physico-chemical analyses, species identification by electrofocusing or molecular biology (NSW and PCR), approvals of raw materials in the company and customized training focused on the quality of aquatic products.
  • The Technology and Innovation department accompanies companies in the development of new products in the pre- and post-project phases (e.g. expert panels). It also offers feasibility studies and assists companies in the creation of production lines or workshops. Finally, it carries out training, audits and diagnostics with regard to regulatory requirements. This department has a 700m² technological hall which can be made available to companies.
  • The Aquaculture department offers aquaculture expertise and relies on its pilot experimental station adapted to numerous possibilities of tests on fish, crustaceans, molluscs, live prey and algae in fresh water or seawater on all stages of development of aquatic animals (incubation, larval, weaning and up to grow-out). This department also carries out technical audits and specific training.

Who are your products/services intended for?

Our services are aimed at all food or seafood processing companies, fish farmers, manufacturers of aquaculture feeds or ingredients, etc...

We also collaborate in public projects (France Agrimer, HDFID,...) and European projects.

Why are innovation and research important in your industry?

Nouvelles Vagues provides the economic and scientific players in the Seafood Processing and Aquaculture sector with shared means of research, analysis and innovation in order to improve the quality of aquatic products and co-products and to promote the development of sustainable aquaculture. These sectors are constantly changing and in full development.

The project for the creation of the Nouvelles Vagues (New Waves) Innovation Platform was imagined and supported by the AQUIMER cluster. We are members of the cluster and we rely on its services in terms of regulatory watch, technological watch and information workshops to feed our reflections on innovation and research.
