Context

Labels and private labels have been developed in recent years, in order to certify sustainability of products and thus reassure the consumer about the responsible nature of his/her purchases. The French fishing industry, united within FranceAgrimer, has entrusted the AQUIMER cluster with the task of carrying out a feasibility study to determine the conditions for eco-labelling of French fisheries.

Objective

About the project

The vast majority of the professionals regarding whom the study shows a clear interest in these initiatives want to witness the creation of an Ecolabel as part of a public initiative, which will guarantee greater credibility and is likely to win the support of the greatest number of people. A public framework would also make it possible to better communicate on the actions of this profession in the field of sustainable development.

This study served as a basis for establishing the criteria for the "Sustainable Fisheries" eco-label managed by FranceAgriMer.
