Republic of Korea to join Horizon Europe programme

On 25 March, liana Ivanova, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, and Lee Jong Ho, Korean Minister for Science and Information and Communication Technology, announced that the Republic of Korea would join the group of countries associated with Horizon Europe.

The Association Agreement between Korea and Horizon Europe is expected to be officially signed in the second half of 2024, subject to the completion of the necessary ratification procedures on both sides. This will allow Korea to participate fully in the programme from 2025.

Once the agreement is signed, researchers and organisations in Korea will benefit from access to Horizon Europe Pillar II funding from 2025. This pillar, with a budget of €53.5 billion, focuses on global challenges such as climate, energy, the digital economy and health, offering significant opportunities for collaborative research.
