EU Research and Innovation Days 2021

The European Research and Innovation Days 2021 took place on 23-24 June. Ms Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, Youth and Sport, inaugurated this initiative by urging all citizens to take action, join discussions, and share their views: “Citizens must continue to be at the centre of the policy process, from creation to implementation.”

During the workshop in relation to the Mission on Healthy oceans, seas, coastal and inland waters, led by Charlina VITCHEVA, DG MARE Director-General, the “Mission Starfish 2030: restore our ocean and water” was presented and all speakers stressed the importance of investments in research and innovation, especially in these times of crises, to ensure that no one is left behind, in particular those who depend on the ocean. Also, the involvement of stakeholders, especially SMEs which are dynamic players bringing smart and innovative solutions, was strongly encouraged in order to achieve a sustainable and green growth of the blue sector.
