A look back at the webinar "Packaging in the aquatic products industry"

This September 20, 2021, 70 people participated in the webinar "Packaging in the aquatic products industry", organized by AQUIMER.

Although the topic of packaging is not new, it has taken on a new dimension with recent developments. Indeed, today it is a question of responding to a regulatory demand (AGEC law), but also to consumers who are more and more concerned about the environment. Another current fact, the covid-19 pandemic has led to a significant development of self-service sales for aquatic products, which has a direct impact on the amount of packaging used in the sector.

There are still many challenges to be met in order to move towards recyclable, compostable, reusable packaging or combinations of plastics that do not interfere with recycling. In particular, it will be necessary to overcome economic, technical (preservation constraints, barrier properties, packaging rate, sealability properties, etc.) and environmental constraints.

Innovation and collaboration between the various players in the sector will make it possible to find the best technical solutions. The exchange of experiences appears therefore essential. This is why, through this webinar, AQUIMER wanted to give the floor to several speakers who shared their experience:

  • Mondial Navys Emballages: supplier of cardboard tidal crates
  • Knauf Industries: manufacturer of non-petroleum based seafood crates and trays made of 100% recycled materials
  • AUCHAN: user of home compostable trays, made of bagasse, a sugarcane by-product.

Participants were able to discuss their needs and the issues they face.

The webinar ended with a presentation of the financing tools for the reuse, reduction and substitution of packaging and containers, especially single-use plastic containers, by ADEME (presentation of the "Ecodesign" and "Packaging Substitution" schemes).
