Development of a dynamic observation system for the determination of marine water quality based on phytoplankton analysis

Context

Phytoplankton (microalgae) is the base link for most marine food chains. It ensures the productivity of living resources and provides important information on the environmental status of marine waters and indications of ongoing changes in water quality.

Objective

Assessing the quality of marine waters in the English Channel / North Sea area via high-resolution monitoring of phytoplankton and related environmental parameters using traditional and modern approaches.

About the project

The partners compare and then calibrate existing tools and techniques for monitoring and analyzing phytoplankton and environmental parameters. They then record, analyse and classify the signals and carry out sampling campaigns in the Channel/North Sea area in order to test their procedures and make them applicable to other systems and other users.
