Research and innovation for a more sustainable production of microalgae
On 22 October 2024, AQUIMER took part in the ‘Best practices on the production and sustainability of microalgae in Europe’ workshop organised by CEVA and A4F as part of the MULTI-STR3AM and CIRCALGAE projects.
The first part of the workshop, dedicated to the MULTI-STR3AM and CIRCALGAE collaboration, reviewed the progress/research made on the subject of microalgae. The aim of these two projects is to make the production of microalgae more sustainable and to convert the waste products from this production into high added-value ingredients. The integration of these ingredients in cosmetic formulations was presented.
The second part of the workshop featured three case studies from Fermentalg, Necton and Algalif:
Fermentalg produces and markets innovative solutions from micro-algae for the health and food of the future.
Necton produces and sells microalgae and traditional sea salt from the salt marshes of Portugal. The company operates two business units: Phytobloom and Necton Salt.
Algalif markets high-quality natural astaxanthin products derived from microalgae (raw products, ingredients and finished formulations).
