NASF: the professional meeting place for players in the sector in Norway

From 3 to 6 March 2020, one of the most important professional events in the aquatic products sector, the 15th edition of the North Atlantic Seafood Forum (NASF), took place. Held in Bergen, Norway, this event brought together more than 730 executives and service providers from over 300 companies and 28 countries.

With three days of parallel conferences, a wide range of topics were discussed, such as high technology for open ocean aquaculture, and the potential of land-based aquaculture, which was the subject of divergent opinions. Trends in the market for aquatic products were explored. The Cargill company, a leading and innovative supplier of poultry products, presented a promising market development for the industry. Indeed, this company mentioned that the consumption of aquatic products would reach the same figures as chicken consumption in 2026.

The 2020 edition of NASF closed with the Seafood Innovation Day, a day dedicated to innovation where many start-ups were able to present their innovative products or services. The Seafood Innovation Award 2020 was presented to the start-up Tracio (Ireland). The latter is developing a system based on chemical sensors and visual indicators to detect spoilage gases and adapt expiry dates. This innovation makes it possible to obtain an indication of the freshness from the production of the product to the consumer's refrigerator.

This global event gave us the opportunity to meet professionals in the industry to forge new relationships and partnerships.
