Ifremer is one of the first institute for marine sciences and technologies. Its research are conducted in a twofold perspective : combining sustainable development and open science. Besides its researches, this institute provides analysis and creates innovation specifically designed for protecting and restoring the ocean, for sustainably exploiting its ressources and for sharing marine data.

Founded in 1984, Ifremer is a public industrial and commercial establishment (EPIC).
The University of Artois is a public institution with a scientific, cultural and professional character. It is placed under the joint supervision of the Ministries of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MESRI), Ecological and Solidarity Transition (MTES), Agriculture and Food (MAA). Recognised worldwide as one of the leading institutes in marine science and technology, Ifremer has a dual perspective of sustainable development and open science.
It conducts research, produces expertise and creates innovations to protect and restore the ocean, exploit its resources responsibly, share marine data and offer new services to all stakeholders.

With a presence on all the coasts of France and the French overseas territories, its laboratories are located on some twenty sites in the three great oceans: the Indian Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.
On behalf of the State, it operates the French Oceanographic Fleet for the benefit of the national scientific community. It designs its own state-of-the-art gear and equipment to explore and observe the ocean, from the coastline to the open sea and from the abyss to the interface with the atmosphere.
