• ANR EQUIPEX Call for Projects
The French National Research Agency (ANR) has just put online the first of the 'national bonds' (Emprunt National) call for projects, devoted to high-quality equipment (EQUIPEX).
One billion Euros intended to fund high-quality intermediary-sized equipment (that is between 1 and 20 million Euros).
This project aims to equip France with quality scientific equipment that complies with international standards, which has become an imperative condition for competitiveness at the international level in many scientific disciplines . Of a very varied nature, they will concern data centres, digital resources, observatories, simulation platforms and imaging or structural biology equipment in particular. They will have to play an important role in the structuring of scientific areas and be open to the scientific community concerned and to industrialists .
The call for projects will be rolled out in three waves: the first is for an envelope of 200 million Euros and this will be followed by two others in 2011 and 2012.
With regards to the first wave, applications must be submitted by 15th September 2010, at the latest. An international jury will select the best among them in the autumn and the State will decide on the awards at the end of 2010.
The texts of the different calls for projects managed by the ANR can be found on the website intended for this purpose:

• Creation of the ANSES
The French National Agency for Food Health Safety, Environment and Labour (ANSES, pronounced "An'sès"), a result of the merger between the AFSSA (French Agency for Food Health Safety) and the AFSSET (French Agency for Health Safety of the Environment and Labour) was founded on the 1st July, 2010. The new agency will continue with all the missions and possess all the means of the AFSSA and the AFSSET, along with their rights and commitments.
The creation of the ANSES combines the guarantee of an independent scientific expertise with a strong openness to the preoccupations of civilian society regarding the risks to which the individual is exposed in daily life. With the ANSES, France possesses a single agency responsible for assessing, preventing and protecting against global risk, and will be more efficient and clearer.
The merger is the outcome of a long consultation which brought out three strong values: excellence, independence, transparency are the founding principles of the ANSES. Guarantees have been provided to ensure that the founding principles of the ANSES are respected.
On the home page of the new agency (www.anses.fr) you will find various information about the ANSES. The AFSSA and AFSSET sites will remain accessible until a new site has been fully rolled out, in order to provide uninterrupted access to all the reports, reviews and recommendations of the agencies.

• Health Food Days
The 8th Food and Health Days met with a lively success with around 800 of 15 different nationalities.
For this edition, pole AQUIMER was accompanied by two member companies, Copalis and Roquette.
Exchanges between professionals and scientists, round-tables and conferences were held over two days.
The theme of the opening conference was «Health nutrition and sustainable food: Crossed visions of Research, Industry and Distribution», sustainable development having become one of the stakes for the agri-food industry that has made it a strategic challenge in its own right. Health nutrition, beyond the immediate challenges of public health, must feed and nourish this new hand of cards.
This was followed by different round-tables on nutritional and functional ingredients, nutritional improvement approaches, nutritional innovation, food supplements, communication and nutritional behaviour, nutritional regulations,...
In addition to these meetings, pole AQUIMER took part in two events between clusters:
- Preparation meeting for the «Nutrition and nutraceutics» days of the next Franco-Quebec Symposium to be held in November 2010,
- European meetings of the «health foods» clusters
These two events on the theme of nutrition allowed us to strengthen links with European and Quebec clusters.

90 people travelled to Paris on 1st June, 2010 in order to «jointly reflect on the aquatic products of tomorrow» during the one day event organised by the Pole AQUIMER. Jacques Le Cardinal, Seafood Purchasing manager for Auchan France and Simply Market, delivered the group's vision of the future for aquatic products.
